Just introducing by self, I am from California, USA. Retired from Boeing Aircraft Co. and also a retired U.S. Navy Senior Chief. I built the Scottish Maid about 20 years ago and looking to get back in to the hobby. I'm looking forward in starting the H.M.S. Endeavour an Artesania Latina kit that I bought quite a few years ago and never got to it.

G'day Fred
Welcome to SOS. We are a great bunch here and of you need any information regarding the A.L Endeavour, that was one of my builds years ago. All I remember was the English was very poorly translated, and eventually I thought the instructions away. Hope it has been corrected lately!
Will you be doing a log? That way all of us can help you, if you need any advice ETC..

To answer a few of you question. Yes my name is Fred, I didn't know how many members there were, so not to duplicate I add the V. I am located in southern Calif. stone throw from Disneyland. There is a club in Fullerton, Ca but haven't check it out yet. Thanks for the info on posting, I think i got confused with my intro post.
A little update on my Endeavour build, I was opening some of the packages in the kit. I think that it's going to be a challenge, not really impressed with the quality of the kit. I believe the Scottish Maid was a Artesania Latina kit but was a great kit. As an example, I opened the anchor and the casting broke in my hand and the other was broke coming out of the bag. Looks like a poor casting, I most likely will buy an anchor for a replacement. Also the rope is all white. They suggest painting the standing rigging black and die in the rope in tea for the running rigging.

G'day Fred
I think I got my A.L the Endeavour kit about 9 years ago. There were only different colour cotton thread, slightly different 'gauge' for the brownish running ropes through to the black stays. If I remember correctly, the scale was 1:64, so the used the supply 'ropes. They were all quite furry, so I ran all the ropes through wax to lessen the 'hairy' rope appearances.
The supply timber was quite a poor quality as well. I remember remaking all the deck's furniture from the steps upwards. My kit only supplied hatches and I replaced most of them with propper entries etc.
If you would like, I can give you a link to my drop box photos of the replica of the Endeavour at Sydney. I used these photo to make so many changes to the kit. The transom is completely different from my kit's version to the replica.
Just send me your private email address via the p.m. and I'll organize the links for you.

Hi Fred,

I built the Caldercraft kit of Endeavour a few years ago. I used the Anatomy of the Ship book on that particular ship and found even the Caldercraft kit somewhat different than what the book showed. I don't know how accurate the design of the AL kit is but you might want to do some searches on Google for images of the replica. Even the replica has differences in it compared to the Caldercraft kit which I left alone. The colors used in the replica paint scheme were helpful to me though. I've been in the rigging stage for about a year now, making a little progress now and then. Here are a couple of photos of my Endeavour model.

Thanks. I've been building model ships for over 30 years. Seems the challenge has gone out of building these days. Kits are just to much alike for me now so I'm spending my time writing new detailed books on how to build model ships from kits.

Later,

Bob

Welcome Fred - where about's in California? I lived in Hollywood/SFV area all of my life up until 2011, when my wife and I moved to Atlanta. Looking forward to seeing more of your posts in here. Cheers!
