HMS Royal Caroline kit ZHL 1/30

Hi Uwe,

Sorry Fred was a day of probably on his way with Wilma :).
But I bought Vasa 1 also which is a great reference, I asked them but no Vasa 2 yet. The interesting thing is however that they are currently scanning al decorations of the vessel in 3d and if these would be available these can be used for modelbuilding and 3d cnc carving. Maybe good things to come for Vasa 2.

Many thanks for this info.....so I have to cross my fingers, that they will do it!
„Wilma“....... that was a good one ☝️

Hello Marten,I have those tiny glasses what you used for the windows, now I have learned how to cut them ,I might use them on my Ontario ,and those “persian” rug what you made is awesome.

Hi Zoly,

The glass is excellent when fitted no disformation when looking inside the cabin. However cutting the glass with a proxxon cutting disc is a hell of a job but as experienced now the only suitable way to do it. Lots of succes.

After fitting the bedroom bulkhead it is now time to continue with the flooring for the hall way to the large meeting room.

I have continued the same block patern from the kings cabin to get one line of sight over the carpetery floor.
After this I had to heighten the bulkhead to fit the deck of the meeting room in front.

The small opening is the kings bedroom window (thx Greg). The inner hull has again been tripled to get the correct thickness of the structure.

To determine the finall position of the windows in the sides of the hull now first the outside carvings have to be fitted.

Now the window frames can be properly dry fitted and shaped to a perfect fit. Follow by cutting the window openings for the hall way.

Now first the inside of the hall way has to be finished before the outside glass can be fitted.

Finally it is time to fit the carvings to the stern. This to protect my very delicate glass windows.
20180601_122837.jpg
First I glued in the top part followed by the lower part. The lower part is rather thick so you really need to shape it correctly before fitting so it nicely follows the shape of the rounded stern. I did this with lots of steam and a soldering iron, ofcourse this all before I waxed and polished them with bees wax.
20180601_121746.jpgI glue with Uhu hart a clear glue for modelling. To tighten everything I used next to a lot of clamps two pieces of solid copper electricity wire which I wrapped around and put to tension by twisting the wires ends.

Next step is the lantern. In the lantern I build a large candle with a candlelight mini LED.
20180525_151336.jpg
The red coated copper wires are the arms of the lantern and directly the wiring to the LED. These I shaped to fit within the lantern. As a candle simulation I used white heat shrink.
20180525_152605.jpg
The lower arm of the lantern I pre shaped and I drilled a hole in the base of the lantern to solder it in.
20180528_174716.jpg

In the lantern I fitted clear plastic glass for the windows before glueing it together with hot melt glue. In the top of the lantern I drilled out the holes in the small chimney

The arms of the lantern are painted matt black, the rest will remain gold.

Now it is time for the top roll on top of the carvings. This one I also shaped with steam and a soldering iron.
20180601_142027.jpg20180601_142058.jpgbefore glueing it I painted it black and glued and clamped it in place.

This is the end result.

G'day Maarten.
What can I say? I'm speechless at the quality of your work!
Absolutely amazing mate!

Now, that my envious ramp has been said, the transom looked so , urr amazing.
All I hope is that I can do a job at least half as good as what you are doing, I'll be a very happy chappy.
Looking forward for your next eye popping entry in this log.
Happymodeling
Greg

Hi gents,

Many thx for your comments but it is the stunning beauty of the kit providing these results, I just glue it together :). On the top roll I maybe still have to change something to add the two women statues at the corners. Now the top roll is creating a nice flowing line towards the hull providing ample space for the two statues. Still have to figure out what will give the best result.

She is looking very beautiful Maarten, the quality of your work is fantastic, I'm enjoying your build immensely,

Best regards John,

PS I have nearly finished my new hobby room, so I might be able to get back to building, my Admiral and myself have not been too good lately,
