Hms Investigator, 1800, 1/48 scale built by neptune from plans by Robert Sexton.

I still have two pics to post, I understood that the ships cutter was lost along with eight crew while looking for fresh water, I assumed that they had probably made shore and were lost some time after, so I built a diorama of the boat on the beach along with the eight crew waiting for the tide to come back in so they could return to the ship, Matthew Flinders named the area Cape Catastrophe.

After doing a little more research it turns out the boat and crew did make it to the shore, the boat was overturned and the crew were drowned while attempting to return to the ship, see below, credit to Wikipedia,

On 21 February 1802 a tragic accident occurred when a shore party which included Ships Master John Thistle, midshipman William Taylor and six seamen were lost when a boat capsized attempting to return to the ship at dusk in choppy waters. No bodies were recovered. Flinders named the headland Cape Catastrophe, and the area which he had anchored Memory Cove.

Hi John,
I really like the way you broke from the traditional ship in a glass case. Where did you find all the sailors? Were they impressed from the local pub? RRRR :text-lol:

Hello John

Just catching up on your build log, Fantastic work for sure you never fail to amaze me with all of your shipbuilding skills. You sure do have an act for being able to approach anything and being able to come out with such great results. May I ask what and how you used to build the upper part of your gun pory hinges, they do look so neet. I do congratulate you on your very fine build on your HMS Investigator along with the very fine case that she lives in. Your lost sailor's side build is also fantastic with great imagination and the skills to put it all together along with its own case, ENJOY.

Regards Lawrence

Thank you Lawrence you are overly kind in your comments.
From what I can remember, I used brass wire through the top of the hinge strap and bent it into a U shape and glued it into holes drilled over the top of the gun port, hope this helps you Lawrence,

best regards John.

Hi John,

What a beautiful build, really stunning.
Directly from the tree to becoming a shipmodel.
Most probably the trees are even from your own garden.

Regs Maarten.

Thank you Maarten, you are too kind, the pear wood came from the Coramandel Valley up in the Adelaide hills, not far from where I live,

best regards John.

I didn't realise that this log hadn't been updated and all the pics were small ones, i have now been through the log and updated all the pics to full size, so if by chance you view it again I hope you enjoy it,

best regards john,
She still is a beauty, a fantastic model to be proud off. Have you ever seen her again?

G'day Maarten, yes I've seen her a couple of times, the guy that I built her for lives approx 30 miles away from me, the copper still had it's shine and everything else looked good, I have got to get around to catching up on your Royal Caroline build, I've been busy this last week building or rather modifying our TV unit to be able to fit our new TV, a present to my Admiral and myself, catch up soon,
Best regards John,
