Hello all. Thanks for admitting me to this forum. I have been a plastic modeller scince I was a boy. Though I did have long layoffs as life got in the way. Indeed I started my first wooden kit when Caldercraft released H M S Snake. I have yet to complete the kit as Iife did indeed get in the way. I am a carer for my partner. I really don't know when I will get back to the bench. But having found this forum I will certainly take inspiration from all the fine builds. I will dig out the kit soon and post some pics. Who knows maybe I will manage to get something done. Meanwhile keep on building. Regards Anthony.

Hallo, and once more a warm welcome here on board.
I cross the fingers, that you can restart the work on the Snake as soon as possible.....btw: it is a very good kit from Jotika / Caldercraft - so I would like to see her (and getting finished) - Good to have you on board

Hello Anthony and welcome aboard! I know what you mean about 'life' issues getting in the way, but I hope that life's circle revolves back up for you and your partner. I was 'down' for 4 months before I bounced back. Life is like a roller coaster ride: plenty of ups and downs, twists and turns and moments of terror to excitement:eek::) I hope you will share some of your work with us. Cheers!

Hi Fright. Cheers mate.

As i said in my intro here are some pics of my H M S Snake. As i said never completed. Hope to get back to it. It was and is my first attempt at a wooden ship model. So purists might want to look away now. Looking at it now i am quite pleased with some of it. I like the fact i managed to get some neat planking done with some tricky bits and of course i would also ask you to bear in mind that i knew i would be coppering the hull so i wasnt too concerned by the odd gap. Though i did my best to avoid them but some i did not have the skill or knowledge to avoid. I hate the filler. Rookie mistake i dont intend to repeat. Anyway here are some pics.

I am not happy with my deck planking knowing what i know now from seeing builds on this site but i will live with it. I could try a fix by cutting fake planking part way through the deck planking but i may make it look worse than it is. I may just leave it as a rookie error. Cheers for now.

Anthony - someone gave me a link for 'deck sheeting' by BlueJacket that may come in handy if you do not want to start over or tear apart to fix. Here's a link to the page
http://www.bluejacketinc.com/fittings/wood3.htm otherwise, keep at it! I like to remind myself from time to time, when I get frustrated over something, of a wonderful quote from one of my favorite painters, Salvador Dali: "Have no fear of perfection - you'll never reach it."

Very true. I certainly wont.:)

Hello Anthony ,you might want to start a separate build log for your build,no problem if not from the beginning if you don’t have images, just start from where are you right now at the building stage.

Thanks,Zoltan

Hallo Anthony,
Many thanks for showing us your first ship model.....you made already a good basis for a good model.
You made a good decision with this kit, due to the fact, that caldercraft / jotika is delivering good quality material with good instructions. The purist will find some smaller things, which could be done different, but like you mentioned already, they will be covered by the copper sheathing. Over all you made a very good job for a first model, and she is worth to get finished!!!!! Realy a very good Start in this Hobby....

Thanks Uwe. I have to admit I lost confidence in my ability around the time I put it away. I think its partly because I see so many things that are wrong with it. The deck appears wavy which I don't recall seeing before. I don't think I used any pressure that would have caused it to do that. Perhaps being in a cold flat for many years but I don't know. Either way the deck is terrible. As you say the hull I can live with as it will be covered. Cheer's mate.

Important is with the first model to learn the techniques and get into this hobby.
It is a step by step hobby - and you learn with every hour working on the model!

Welcome, Anthony. I built the Snake as my first wooden ship and enjoyed it. I made a lot of mistakes, did some stupid things but learned from it all. There are models I see in museums and I know I could never achieve that level, but having a bit of fun and enjoying it is the reward.

Hi Graham. I was going to message you once i start back at it. Your Snake is a cracker you did a real nice job on that. I will be using it as a help and inspiration for sure. Cheers mate.
