I am an experienced model builder (wood, plastic, resin, r/c, etc) from Charlotte, North Carolina. I have built many wooden ship models. I have heard that this site is very friendly, so here I am!!! Although retired, my wife and I have a small home based business making cutting boards and wedding gifts. Luckily for me, this home business allowed me to invest in some very good tools for model building. My shop is equipped with a 60 watt Epilog Laser and a Shopbot CNC machine. I have been learning CAD for about 6 months now and am beginning to produce parts for model ships. Although not technically selling ship parts, I am happy to make custom parts for other members (I need all the practice I can get). Just email me if interested.

I am currently finishing up a project building the AL Stagecoach for my stepson. Once that's finished I plan to start a build log on this site for the Caldercraft HM William Gunboat.

I will post some pictures of a few of my completed models once I am more familiar with the site. In the meantime, I have happy to be here and looking forward to sharing with others!!

Hi Mike! Welcome aboard!

I also plan to be more active in this forum. I'll be starting build logs for two of my projects soon: AL's Independence and a Triton Cross section in 1/24 scale.

Spoiler alert!: Mike and I are cyber friends from our days over at the Lauck Street Shipyard forum, and built Bob Hunt's 1/32 scale POF Armed Virginia Sloop sort of in tandem. As far as I know, ours are the only completed models of that very nice POF kit.

Anyway, Mike fabricated the quarterbadge windows and name plate for my "Independence" model (aka "Clio"), and we have a couple of joint projects on the drawing board, yet to come. I guess you could say this post is kind of an introduction for me, also. I'm glad to be posting here as well.

Welcome Dave, You are now a member of our 2 sister sites check them out, Model Ship Builder(ABOUT TO CHANGE soon) and NAVY BOARD MODELS, THAT ALSO HAS A FACEBOOK PAGE CHECK THEM OUT, looking forward to your build have bee wanting to do that kit for some time now, and am interested in some parts what do you have. Don

Hi Mike,

Good to see another familiar face here at SOS. Looks like you joined a day before I did.

I remember all of those great kits you showed off in stacks on tables when you finished your new workshop. I look forward to seeing you build them all in the near future :D (maybe in my next lifetime). Anyway, I do remember some of the great models you posted photos of in my old forum. Clearly you're a skilled modeler and class act in my book. Hope to see more new models from you in the near future. Can't let that great workshop go to waste!

Take care,

Bob Hunt

Geoff, Dave, Don, Zoltan, Gary, Bob - Thank you all so much for the warm welcome! Only a member 1 day and already so many friends here!! I found the forum section for posting completed model pics - I will upload a couple of my models later today. Bob is right about my huge stack of kits.. been collecting my entire life. I currently have over 300 plastic kits and probably 20 wooden ship models - not yet built!! I have about half that many again that are built!!! I typically have more than one model project going at a time along with the home business. Dave Blake and I also have a lot of synergy in doing joint projects!!!

If there is anything at all I can do to help other members, please speak up!! In the meantime, let's load up a sharp xacto blade and get busy!!

:text-thankyouyellow:

Hi Mike

The best thing you can do stat build and get a build log on.

Cheers
Geoff

greetings Mike happy to see you here

you will find this site and forums go from beginner to high end CAD, 3D printing, kit design, and laser cutting.

there are 2 main forums MSB and SOS which are the public forums for model building and build logs there are also private forums which are invite only. Not that these forums do not want to share it is they are mostly tech talk and little model building and site design and construction. The results of these forums end up as modeling projects. which are up loaded to the NBM site which acts as an archive and library.

another thing with the private forums they ask for volunteers to do CAD work or prototype building, design and machining prototypes, drawing modeling plans and 3D models.

The guys in the back room don't do it for profit we do it because we like it.

Hi Dave,

Sounds like a good thing. I have lots of experience with CAD including 3D CAD and with website development. If I can be of any service just let me know.

Sorry for butting into your intro posting Mike. :)
