GOLDEN HINDE by Canoe21 { Lawrence } Harold A Underhill Plans, Scale 1:60

G'day Lawrence.
Just wanted to know something mate. How far do you live from West Edmonton Mall?
The reason why I'm ask this question is because for you to get this model so incredibly accurate, you or a friend must have taken a lots of photos of the replica there.
As I have stated earlier, every model that you do, your craftsmanship keeps on improving.
Happymodeling mate
Greg.
P.S. I do understand why you can't say anything on my post. Just knowing that you are looking, is good enough for me.
Greg

Hello Greg

I do thank you very much for your visit to my build log on the little ship the Golden Hind. Also for your very kind words and overly nice comments.

No, the West Edmonton Mall is a long way from me here in Sutton, Ontario. it is 2,213.8 miles from here and that is the short way through the USA. That is also a 34-hour drive. No, one of my Ship Mares Allan in Northern England did send me a lot of pictures that he took on a visit to see the replica around a year ago. They have been a great help and I did thank him very much for his kindness.

I truly do not believe that I am, all that good at model ship building. It is a great hobby for me and passes away the long cold winter hours. I do try to improve as I go but I have a long way to go to catch up with Neptune [John].

I am happy that you do understand me not posting on your new build log. I do have a lot of very good friends over there on the MSW Form and do not want to jeopardize that in any way. I also have a lot of friends here on the SOS Form that I do try to stay in touch with, ENJOY.

Regards Lawrence

PS - West Edmonton Mall does have a full replica of the Santa Maria that in a lot of ways is very similar to that of the Golden Hind.

No you didn't mate, it's a saying in Australia, if a person made a mistake, like I did.
No offence taken mate.

Hello Ship Mates

I again thank you all for all of your many visits to my build log on the little ship the Golden Hind. Also for your very kind words and overly nice comments.

Back in the Old Ship Yard the little fellows and I have completed sewing and attaching the Mizzen Spanker Sail. My Admiral Bernadette sewed them up for me almost a year ago and I am finally starting to attach them to our little ship. Yesterday we sewed the rope around the outer edges of the sail as my Admiral said that is not her job. We later laced the Spanker Sail to the Mizzen Yard. Built and attached the two Vangs lines and blocks to control the uppermost part of the Mizzen Yard. We also built and installed the two blocks to control the bottom of this sail. We did build and install a sail spreader. We are still up in the air about the three Buntinglines to be able to take in and stow the Spanker Sail when it is not in use, but for now, we will just think on it a bit longer, ENJOY.

Back in the Old Ship Yard the little fellows and I have had a very busy week of preparing and installing the Lower Main Sail and all of its control lines. We have built and installed the Main Yard Lift Blocks. We had to make the 4 Sleeve Ramhead Block as we did not have them in stock. We built and installed the 4 strings of the Parral Beads. We have built and installed the two Main Yards Braces and their control blocks. We have built and installed the two Bowlines and terminated them to the Focal Deck. We have added the two Buntings Lines for the Main Sail, along with the two Main Sail Clue Lines. And last but not the least we have built and installed the two Main Sail Sheet lines. All of this for one small sail on a very little ship, ENJOY.

Hello Ship Mates

Once again I do thank you all very much for all of your visits to my build log on the little ship the Golden Hind. Also for your very kind words and overly nice comments.

Back in the Old Ship Yard the little fellows and I are continuing our work on the sails. This week we have built the Forward Lower Yard with all of its Parrell Beads and all of the Blocks and Fittings very much the same as the Lower Main Sail. We have sewn on the Sails outer Rope and attached it to the Lower Forward Yard. These sails are going on much faster than I had counted on, as I was figuring that the Golden Hind would be completed in mid-April but at this rate, we will be lucky to make mid-March, ENJOY.

Back in the Old Ship Yard the little fellows and I continue our work on the sails for the Golden Hind. We have built and installed the Bow Sprite Yard with all of its blocks and lines. Very much the same as the Main and Fore Sail except for the Jib Out Haul and also the In Haul. For such a little sail this one sure does have its share of lines and Blocks. I found this little sail to be to be rather enjoyable to build mainly because it is so very much out in the open. ENJOY.

Hi Lawrence,

Still working on the Main Top Sail, golly but there sure are a lot of control lines for such a small sail, this sure is a learning experience, .ENJOY.

Hello Ship Mates

I am very saddened at the great loss of one of my Ship Mates of many years now, Geoff was always the first one to offer help in any way that he could along with his support. This very generous man who took time away from his beloved Model Shipbuilding and shared it so very willingly so that he could help his shipmates, this made Geoff very happy. He was very proud to be appointed an Administrator of the SOS Form that he loved so very much. Rest In Peace Geoff we will miss you very much.

Again I thank you all very much for all of your visits to my build log on the little ship the Golden Hind. Also for all of your very kind words and overly nice comments.

Back in the Old Ship Yard, it has been a rather disastrous week. To start off with that little horizontal Jack Staff somehow it got broken into while turning the ship so many times while rigging the sails. Yesterday while rigging the upper Main Top Sail I discovered that the top of my Starboard Elm Pump was missing, after a lot of searching my workbench and the surrounding floor area I did discover it at the bottom of the companionway and upon trying to retrieve it flew into the Bouws of the ship never to be seen again, no amount of shaking would bring it back in sight so last night the little fellows and I built another and did install it, not at a big a job as I had imagined. We also discovered that we did not install the Yard lift blocks and lines for the Top Sail these we will add a little later.

We did sew the rope around the outer edges and paint a red cross on the center of this sail just to give the Golden Hind a splash of color. We did build and install the upper Yard Bracing for the of the Top Sail Lift and we had to build another 4 sleeve block to do so.And last but not the least we added the top sail spreader lines to this sail and belayed them to the Fore Mast Crows Nest Rail, ENJOY.

Regards Lawrence

PS we did take a few outside pictures today even though it was quite cold on our deck with lots of snow, just so show her true Cherry Wood colors.

Realy good work with the rigging the little fellows and you did.
She is looking great.

Hello Uwe

I do thank you very much for your visit to my build log on the Golden Hind. Also for your very kind words and overly nice comments. Yes, we are trying to make the sails a bit realistic as if she were at sea. The little fellows really do help in sorting things out and trying to make things more interesting, ENJOY.

Hi Lawrence,
Your model is really great I like what you did with the sails she looks as though she is under way.
Hello Mike

Thank you very much for your visit to my build log. Also for your very kind words and overly nice comments. Yes, I have always loved the look of a sailing ship under sail and I do try very hard to show this in my model ships, ENJOY.

Regards Lawrence

Thanks for sharing this build. I can see that you loved building her, I can see it in the boat.
Well done.
Hello Peter

Welcome to my build log on the little ship the Golden Hind. I am always pleased to have a new crew member on board. Please stop by very often as your words and comments are always welcome here. Please pull up a chair and join in the fun of building this little ship, you will find that the door to the Old Ship Yard is never closed. Yes, this has been a rather enjoyable build, I do prefer them a little larger with my fat fingers it is a bit difficult to add all of the detail that I so very much like to add to my model ships, ENJOY.

Regards Lawrence

Back in the Old Ship Yard the little fellows and I have been rather busy installing the Upper Fore Mast Yard along with it's Sail and all of those blocks and lines that go along with it. We have made and installed a number of rope coils scattered around the ship, we did not want to add a coil to each line that is installed as that would be very overpowering and hide even more of the ships detail so we have kept them to under 20.

We have made and painted a couple of flags the Tudor Rose Flag on the Mizzen and the St. Georges Cross on the top of the Main Mast. We have not as yet decided as yet just what we will install on the Top of the Fore Mast so for the time being, we will leave it empty. ENJOY.

Nice job on your Golden Hind model Lawrence. Rigging such a model with the full compliment of sails is no easy task. Excellent execution I must say.

Take care,

Bob
