Don Farr's Blandford Cross Section Build

Hi Mike, Thanks for the drawings they help in location, of the LDHK, but still have a block in my mind, I reviewed SGTMIK building log and he seemed to have the same problem that I am having, AM I CORECT IN ASSUMING THAT THE 2 DIFFERENT LDHK PATTERNS< THE ONE IN BLUE WHICH IS THE TOP OF THE HANG KNEE ATTACHES TO THE GREEN LDHK TO MAKE ONE PIECE, I HOPE I AM MAKING EXPLAINING MY PROBLEM CORECTLY. AGAIN THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP WONDERFULL PROJECT GOT ME THINKING ABOUT MORE SCRATCH BUILDS AS LONG AS THE PLANS, INSTRUCTIONS, BOM AND YOUR EXPERT HELP IS THERE Don

Hi Don,
There is not 2 different LDHK patterns. The green patterns labeled LDHK- 1 thru 6 are the vertical hanging knees. The blue patterns labeled LDK-1 thru 6 are the horizontal lodging knees.

Look at the Lower Deck Framing Plan as you read the following instructions, it will help you understand what I am saying.

At deck beam LDB-2 on the left side glue the hanging knee LDHK-4 to the beam level with the top of the beam as shown on the lower deck framing plan, next on the right side of LDB-2 glue the lodging to the beam LDK-5 level with the top of the beam and to the left side of the arm beam. At deck beam LDB-3 on the left side glue the hanging knee LDHK-5 to the beam level with the top of the beam as shown on the lower deck framing plan, next on the right side of LDB-3 glue the lodging knee LDK-6 to the beam LDK-3 level with the top of the beam and to the left side of hanging knee LDHK-6 which is attached to the deck beam LDB-4.

Hi Mike41, Still having problems with the Green LDHK, I will show you pictures of what I think you mean,,, NOW FOR ANOTHER PROBLEM THIS IS MY PROBLEM senior citzens moment; how do you determine the location of LDB No. 2&3 is there a dimension to use or a mesurment, I am concerned about the location of the mast step and mast so that it aligns with mast on the upper deck, no room for error there and the mast step and shot locker have to located exactly so that everything works with the other decks. SORRY TO BE SUCH A PAIN THE BUILD IS COMMING ALONG OK HATE TO SCREW IT UP NOW Don

Hi Don,
The Green LDHK problem sounds interesting. I am looking forward to seeing pictures of what you think I mean.
To determine the location of LDB No. 2&3 look at the drawing Lower Deck Framing Plan and measure from the outside edge of LDB-1 to the joint between HDLK-4 and LDB-2 and transfer the dimensions to the deck clamps, then measure from that mark to the joint between LDHK-5 and LDB-3 this gives you the locations of the deck beams.
The Mast Step needs to be installed before you install the lower deck beams. The location is shown on the Hold Plan (on the frame 5 center line) and patterns are located on the Hold Well Details drawing. The mast is perpendicular to the keel so the location on the main deck is the same as the lower deck.

Hi Don,
The green LDHK does not attach to the beam bottom, it is glued to the side of the beam and the beam clamp as shown on the plan drawing. Make sure you have the well and shot locker ip place when you dry fit the deck beams.
Your progress photos look good.
Mike

Thanks Mike, do you forsee any problems with my method of bagging CARLINGS, LEDGES, BEAM ARMSetc and do you think my 2 3/16 in dimension for ldb2 semm correct, I already checked the beams against tha shot locker and they are OK, I need to be EXTRA CAREFULL OF MAST LOCATIONS TO MATCH UP THE LOWER DECK MAST LOCATION, will try dry fitting the GREEN LDHK in the location you stated. Don

If bagging the parts helps you keep things organized it is fine. The 2 3/16” dimension is
Is correct. The upper deck is like this one and will be a lot easier for you.

more progress pictures, THE GREEN LDHK ARE DRIVING ME NUTS, I have looked at all the builds on the BLANDFORD, can see the GREEN LDHK BUT CAN NOT FIGURE OUT HOW IT WORKS WITH THE BLUE LDHK, SOMETHING IS NOT CLICKING,,,,I show what I think is where it goes using a scarp piece and rubber cement to show it if it goes there presents to me more problems, I REALLY NEED YOUR HELP MIKE ON THIS ONE MAYBE A PICTURE SHOWING BOTHE THE GREEN AND BLUE LDHK. thanks for any help. Don

Hi Don,
Please go to page 4 of 11 in my build log post #73 and read the section Lower Deck Framing
Looking at the photos you will notice I installed the beams next to the well first then the arm beams, looking at the fifth photo you will see the beam next to the well with the shot locker below has a horizontal knee between it and the arm beam, the hanging knee goes between I and the arm beam and the beam adjacent to the right side of the well.
After you have those pieces glued in place refer to the following photos for the location of the other parts. You may have to do a little trimming to get a good fit.
I am in Cabo San Lucas Mexico and my model is in Olathe Kansas, so these pictures are all we have to work with. I will be back in the states next week.
Mike

Thanks Mike have a great time there, will try to figure it out, if not will wait until you get back,. THANKS SINCERLY FOR ALL YOUR HELP I am BOUND AND DETERMINED TO DO THIS ONE RIGHT Don
