Don Farr's Blandford Cross Section Build

Hey my shipmate Don

I am glad to see you on the build. Lets enjoy this together with Mike.

We have a lot to learn. We have a excellent instructor.

We can learn together as we do.

Cheers
Geoff

Well Geoff and all just started my build, starting with the keel, and will do one frame for practice, then get the jig done this presents a problem to me as my HAND, BRAIN AND EYE COORDINATION IS NOT WHAT IT USED TO BE I AM HAVING A DIFFICULT TIME DOING THIS, but will try latter, so here are the progress pictures of the keel, keel shoe and rabbit cut out, what I do is cut the patteren then rubber cement it to some 90LB bond paper then rubber cement it to the wood,,,,,,,PLEASE LET ME HERE COMMENTS GOOD OR ESPECIALLY IF YOU SEE SOMETHING WRONG PLEASE LET ME KNOW, will not learn if no critisms comming20180113_210706[2509].jpg20180113_210509[2511].jpg20180113_210509[2511].jpg20180113_210509[2511].jpg20180113_210311[2512].jpg

Hi Don

Looks like you are progressing nicely.

I hope to start mine in the next month, but have been busy helping members out on the forum as you well know.

I am sure that as we are all making the same model thanks to Mike and learning by doing so.

I have never been ashamed of posting a mistake I make with a model. It is the best way to get advice. It might also help another modeler from not making the same mistake.

I used to have on my signature "Live, Listen and Learn". That is what this project is about.

Cheers
Geoff

It is every time exciting to start with one project......good start so I will follow your log with interest

THANKS GUYS,And Geoff I too welcome Critisisms only way to LEARN TO DO BETTER new progress pictures this week, I just wish I had gotten a better piece of 1/4 inch PLYWOOD FOR THE TOP JIG BUT WILL WORK WITH THIS ONE. Don

Hi Don,
Good start shipmate glad to see you off and running. It really does not matter how good a piece of ply wood you use so long as all the dimensions are correct it will work. When you are done with the jig you won't feel bad about pitching it on the scrap pile.

Hi Everyone, Not quite ready yet to go full blast but some minor work, be ready for lots of question some stupid,,,,THE FIRST ONE IS THE PLACEMENT OF THE KEEL IN THE RIGHT LOCATION on the building board(DRY FITTED) I have a hard time recociling how much distance from the end should the keel aasymbly be(hope I am explainig it right), also showing the top of the jig(dry fitted), I am going to use dowels so it can be removed for inassceable work, HAVE TO WAIT FOR MY SON IN LAW to get home, I am not allowed to use the big tools due to age and health, SO HOW DO THINGS LOOK SO FAR

Hi Don,
Everything looks OK so far, use a square to mark the out sides of frame 1 & 9 on the bottom of the jig and attach the keel where the end of the keel meets those points. Have you added the pins to the bottom of the keel? You will need to mark the base board and drill the holes in the correct locations.
Mike

Hi Mike41, Have to think about what directions you gave me sometimes I have a menta block and have to think about it for awhile may have more questions on this if I can not get the concept right in my mind(SENIOR CITIZENS MOMENT), no have not drilled holes yet, soon though, will have to wait for my son-in-law to get back so i can finish the building jig. THANKS Don,,,,,, PS LOOKING THROUGH THE OTHER BUILDS TO SEE IF I CAN FIND A PICTURE OF WHAT YOU ARE TELLING ME. THANKS Don

Hi Don,
You need to read the instructions and look at the photos on my build log at the same time, you should be able to see what is going on that way, if the procedure is not clear point out the part you are having trouble with.
Mike
