Hello all, if like to thank everyone who has welcomed me so far. I am a Computer Hardware Technician, volunteer firefighter/first responder, father of five, and avid historian from the Eau Claire, WI, USA area. I've wanted to build my own Brig or Ship, but until the lottery comes my way, I'm going to model them instead. I intend on starting simple with the USS Porpoise (1836) in 1:72, making it about 15" long, and moving up from there. But, my main goal is to do it all correctly as if I was building a full size ship. Big dreams to scale, lol.

what made you choose the USS Porpoise (1836) as a subject to model?

But, my main goal is to do it all correctly as if I was building a full size ship. Big dreams to scale, lol.

the reason I asked is because the only information on the Porpoise are a set of hull lines no construction details. if you wanted to build a model correctly there are at least 3 brigs that sailed the great lakes with a load of archaeological date that you can actually reconstruct the ships from. The Nancy, the General Hunter and the Tecumseth.

Welcome to the group Daryl. I'm a retired Fire/Medic, much respect for volunteer brothers and sisters. Ship building has been a great way of forgetting the job and relaxing. Looking forward to see some builds.

Your introductions sounds realy interesting.......feel home and in a group of friends, waiting all for the big win in the lottery, therefore we all build "only" scale miniatures of the originals.....I am looking forward to hear and see more....

G'day Daryl from Downunder
Welcome to our family, mate.
I like your introduction, you're a busy man!

I havta agree with Dave here. With my experience, I would never build this ship from scratch because there's not too much information about her. Why don't you try to build a better known ship like The Constitution. I assume you're an American, because of your pick of ships. So this The constitution could also be, in line with your heritage.
Just a thought.
Happymodeling
