Selection of wood - including boxwood, pearwood, ebony, holly, cherry and walnut
Special jigs to assist in construction - including wood forms and clamps
The many available types of tools and glues, and how best to use them
The form used to help bend the plank around the bow area of the hull
Tips on the batten as a guide in the planking process
The use of clinker-built planking as an alternative process
The simple use of push-pins when attaching the planks to the bulkhead
Planking of the false deck when building a kit model

Don Dressel is a Senior Telecommunications Engineer who has been building ship models for appr. 20 years. A member and former president of the Fullerton Ship Modelers Association, he has won numerous awards for his modeling efforts.

Review:

There are a lot of positive and also some negative aspects of this book. It is definitely helping the newbie, but the way of explanation is not every time easy to understand or to follow. Take a closer look at the Look Inside photos if you like the style of this book. Recommended, but it should be not the only book in your library.

This is a great book that answers questions. A key area I like is where he covers how deck planking changed over time so that you can plank your decks with correct plank width. Also discussed how to do deck shift using the common 4 deck shift pattern.
