At the beginning of the XX century the Cancale and Grandville bisquines caused general admiration in the coasts of English Channel because of their rig´s surface when they were prepared for races, taking the lug rig to its maximum exposure and overpassing without difficulty 12 nots of speed when handled by expert crews.
The bisquines had this lug rig without stays nor even real shrouds which truly results notable for that amount of sails.
The main purpose of the bisquines was dredging fishing with bottom trawling nets in oyster banks inside the bay of Mont-Saint-Michel, for which they needed to have a good traction force, which next to the need to arrive early at port to sell the captures in the best conditions it explains the dimensions of its rig.
