Hello and good evening from Portugal.

I found this forum on Facebook some time ago and since then I have visited it regularly and browsed with interest through many posts. Great works and great passion, my congratulations to you all

I am 74, retired system engineer from IBM mainframes and I've been building models as far as I can remember, mainly model airplanes in my youth, then plastic models, radio control yachts (also sailing them), more recently radio control sailplanes (mainly slope soaring, a great fun) , and then I began working with "real" wood in the form of dollhouses for my wife.

During all this time I've collected tools, some expertise, wood, plans and projects, a lot of projects and dreams, more than my age permits. Some years ago I bought an Artesania Latina Charles W. Morgan, and Amati Oseberg and one Constructo Prince de Neufchâtel. I began the Morgan and started the Oseberg hull but I was not happy with either of the kits so there were put aside and so they stood for many years getting dust.

Recently I took the Oseberg and started again, but making changes and doing the things my way, and I am happy with what I am achieving. As a result of this old age passion, I began putting together the Prince and it is giving me great pleasure, and I intend to re-start the Morgan. More recently I bought an H.M.S. Fly that is quietly waiting its time to be built.
I am loving building these ships.

I think that with you I can get the help and advice that I need, since I've never built a model ship and I am an absolute newcomer to your hobby.

My intention is to open build logs for both models and give notice of my progresses or lack of them. My long time intention is to stay here and go on building more ships. My dream is to scratch build something, maybe La Belle since I have the drawings by Boudriot.

Sorry for the long post and apologies for my not perfect English.

Welcome to SOS. We would love to see your build logs. It's seems that you have quite a lot of experience with models, but if you have any question etc.(the technical words still get me), I'm sure there are brothers and some sisters who would love to help you.
Btw. Your English is PERFECT.

Thanks a lot, age is a state of mind or as we say here in Portugal about our Oporto wine, the older the better.

I am aware of MSB, NBM and it was through the Facebook page that I discovered this forum.

Thanks Greg, I intend to start posting as soon as I discover how the posting works and how to post photos.

I Have some experience with models, allright, but it was recently that I discovered the hard woods (by the way, balsa IS a hard wood...) I mean with pear, boxwood, cherry etc. Since then I had used mainly balsa and ply and had some experience with epoxy and glass fiber besides plastics, of course.

I am a complete disgrace with technical words regarding ships. Stern, stem, keel, rudder and some few other, besides that I think I must consult Google translate frequently if I want to be understood...

I count with all the help I can get, I am curious and like to experiment, but it is not fun to re-invent the wheel besides being a complete lost of time.

My English is not perfect of course, but thanks anyway.

Thanks Goff.

To tell the truth I had my share of plastics, but I love to see what can be done nowadays. The perfection that can be achieved is something that I never dreamed of.

In my time, if you wanted to get plasticard you had to eat yogurts to use the packages. (yes, I am THAT old :( ).

Thanks for the welcome.
