    Ingermanland 1715 (2014) * Shi Cheng * 1:50 Scale

Nice to hear from you, Maarten! When I get more done, I will post more photos. Really, the only BIG accomplishment that I have done is I have almost completely planked past the canon ports, and installed the aft portion of the cabin(?). And although I feel that things didn't really work out...

    Ingermanland 1715 (2014) * Shi Cheng * 1:50 Scale

No, not the way the bulkheads are cut. But no matter, the deck went much faster than the hull. The hull is really slow, and with not much time to dedicate to my build, it seems as if it will take a lifetime to finish planking. But I remain optimistic

    Ingermanland 1715 (2014) * Shi Cheng * 1:50 Scale

I too, did not receive any "Rope" tagged as X302, unfortunately, but I'm somehow under the belief that this rope needs to be fabricated using an existing "Wire" within the kit. I remember looking into purchasing a wrapping tool to assist the twisting of the line. I hope this helps, and best of...

    Ingermanland 1715 (2014) * Shi Cheng * 1:50 Scale

And you guys didn't think I'd be back! :p Well, after reading up on planking, looking at photos, and worrying about the dreaded garboard plank, I took the plunge last week and gave it my best shot...and I was happy with it :D So, this week I began laying down the second layer of planking and I...

    Gorilla Super Glue (Multi-Surface)

Well, then I guess the good thing I have going for me is that my ship won't fit in the freezer, and it's 100% humidity all year long here in the Deep South ;) ROTF

    Gorilla Super Glue (Multi-Surface)

I guess that depends on the ability to keep the glue on the correct side. I used CA glue for my entire deck planking, and was able to apply a wonderful oil based coat to seal it. Not to much though ;)

    Gorilla Super Glue (Multi-Surface)

That certainly defies what most have to say. I know of one individual that only builds with CA glue, and even goes so far as to coat the finished hull with the CA glue for added strength. I wasn't sure that the CA glue would last, as he is a young man, and "Time Tested" was not on his side, you...

    Gorilla Super Glue (Multi-Surface)

I do believe that you have answered my question, didit. And I thank you for your reply ;):D

    Gorilla Super Glue (Multi-Surface)

What is the life span of Gorilla Super Glue (Multi-Surface) I wonder? Claiming that it can be used for wood, and I did use it for the deck planking, I wonder how it would hold up for the second planking of a hull if the planks were say, 0.5mm thick? Not "Hold Up" as in strength, but longevity...

    Ingermanland 1715 (2014) * Shi Cheng * 1:50 Scale

From a book on planking, I separated the upper and lower hull sections by laying tape from the center point of the keel & wale line. Then I went forward to the assumed waterline (as per the kit drawings), and then aft to the joint of the upper sternpost. Then I drew a line along the tape edge...

    Ingermanland 1715 (2014) * Shi Cheng * 1:50 Scale

I purchased the book that epicdoom and Jimsky recommended. Amazon Prime is fantastic! Thanks for the recommendation, guys! :D Zoltan, I haven't actually made the garboard plank just yet. I'm really just trying to visualize how it will all fall together and it just seems like such a drastic...

    Ingermanland 1715 (2014) * Shi Cheng * 1:50 Scale

Alright, here I go again with the questions:confused:  :p I've been practicing with the garboard plank, and I've tried a few different methods, but it's led me into questioning the planks that stretch to the stem. It seems that, no matter what, the bow planks, following their natural...

    Ingermanland 1715 (2014) * Shi Cheng * 1:50 Scale

Yes, these are all the same width, I'm afraid. Which would explain the incorrect planking of this hull, I believe. As a beginner, I feel that this will be my biggest challenge yet. o_O Something else that I have not done is cut the rabbet.

Thanks for the links, Zoltan & didit! That's just what I needed to point me in the right direction!

    Ingermanland 1715 (2014) * Shi Cheng * 1:50 Scale

Alright, now that the first layer of planking is complete, and the hull is nicely shaped, I've began to read about the second planking and have come across the garboard plank, which is leaving me a little confused due to the lack of "How To" instructions. I've looked for videos; or even good...

    Ingermanland 1715 (2014) * Shi Cheng * 1:50 Scale

Today I got to do a little work on Ingermanland. I love this ship! I told my wife today, 'If this is as good as I can make it, I've had a GREAT time getting it to this point!' :D I've been working on smoothing out the hull, and I feel that it really shaping up nicely. There are a few very...

    Ingermanland 1715 (2014) * Shi Cheng * 1:50 Scale

Well, I am having a wonderful time building this ship, even though it is my first ever wooden ship. I know that dark waters await, and difficult times will arise, but I am not worried because, for some reason, this is very pleasing to me. And because you have already built wooden ships, I...
