The Naval Cutter ALERT- 1777, POF by Jimsky

Very nice photos Jimsky. This sawdust is common with CNC cut parts. Caldercraft kits are the same way. Another idea is to use a powerful vacuum cleaner (ShopVac) with a small nozzle. It will remove the dust right out of the grooves. Try it. I am curious about how the parts are held into...

    Deck planking

Everything came full circle back to my original question to Dave last week. In general, are deck planks on larger sized - small scaled ship models overscaled to provide a more aesthetic appearance? The answer seems to be - yes. Not sure what the problem with that is. In ancient times, there...

To give support for the mast probably. Man... look how thick those things are!!! Notice how the one on the left appears to be slightly wider than the one on the right. I am sure Ancre would never draw them this way.

I agree 100% Dave.... and for sure Ancre's drawings are just repesentations at best. Most likely the widths varied based on available timber and were cut to fit the space where the thickness was kept as consistent as possible.

Just as an fyi... (mostly for @garyshipwright ) the ship in my picture is from the 1890's and is a Barquentine with 3.5" teak planks. This is directly from the Smithsonian plans.

    Artesania Latina Support

I recently purchased AL's new Belem kit. This is thier very latest kit since reopening from the Hong Kong plant. The instructions were also on CD. Since this saves cost over printed materials I would assume you can expect this to be the norm from them here forward.

What matters is how the builder wants it to look... regardless of historical accuracy or not. We don't need ship police...

    Deck planking

So, since Dave is showing pictures. Let me show a couple drawings from where all this started in the first place. Please look below and you tell me from a model perspective, which one would you think looks the best and would be the the most practical to build? Sometimes "looks" take priority...
