Batavia kit building by Janos [COMPLETED BUILD]

Just to finish this story on a high note: Batavia arrived in Tasmania, safe and sound. I count myself lucky for this fortunate outcome... János

    De Crone yacht by Janos

A few steps ahead and more steps back with my De Crone. This is the current state. I've got a few more carvings done but not installed yet (ie. figure head, pumps, more decos), they will be put on at the last minute. János

Purchased shortly ago / sthg new in your workshop -> present it here

It looks like I have to check those collets. My handpieces (Marathon and it's Chinese equivalents) have only one collet each, all of them 2.35 mm. I have the tools though, so I just have to check the collets - and not collects to what AI changed it in my original mail ):= János

I fully agree with Stephen. I have been using the South Korean / Chinese micro motors for 10+ years and I am happy with them. The hand piece looks identical to Stephen's, the power supply is different though. The only thing I am not happy with that mine's have only 2.35 mm collects and the two...

Soleil Royal by Heller - an Extensive Modification and Partial Scratch-Build by Hubac’s Historian

Marc, I assume these pieces are hard soldered, right? Did you try it with less paste? With this much it looks like soft soldering and the surplus paste has to be removed anyhow. Sorry, did not want to be critical (you have been doing a great job), just my 2 cents... János

how many times can the same part break during rigging?

This is one of the biggest entertaining factors in our hobby (NO!). Pieces, ready subassemblies, sensitive parts go missing every day. We can blame Mr. Murphy for it or we can be proud that we can experience the 4th dimension every time. They just simply go somewhere (to be probably found at the...

Привет с Украины. - Greetings from Ukraine

Correct me if I am wrong but as far as I can remember there were a few rules as this forum started. One of them was no politics, another one was that the language of the forum is English. I just wonder whether we can still stick to these? (Although the expression 'playing by the rules' leaves a...

HIGH HOPES, WILD MEN AND THE DEVIL’S JAW - Willem Barentsz Kolderstok 1:50

Well, I think to be able to judge the authenticity of Vladislaw Zhdan's models we should have plans, paintings or similar from the time of the ships themselves. And we know, that these do not exist or are not in a usable format. So for me what counts is that his models are extremely beautiful...

    A word of Caution

The thing is that we are usually taken for a ride with these drill bits. If you buy a boxful - a collection say from 0.5 mm to 2.3 mm - you will find that at least half of these are not the size they supposed to be. These are mostly imperial sizes and they are just close to the nominal size they...

Batavia kit building by Janos [COMPLETED BUILD]

Thanks, Hans! Unfortunately it took much longer than I thought to build Batavia and I can blame only myself for that. Now it looks like the Client agreed to the TNT delivery option so I don't have to drive 2500 kms plus two ferry rides. Phew! As I mentioned above I was happy with the quality of...
