H.M.S Enterprise plank on frame CAF Models 1/48.

Excellent to see progress after your break Brian. This looks like it will an amazing model. Do you plan to do some upgrading with materials or continue to follow the kit build?

Hi Brito,
I use Titebond glue and cyanoacrylate.
Thank you for your reply Brian ! I will hopefully get on with my build this next weekend after a month working at sea. Lots of frames ahead! My jig came with some laser cutting defects but i think i can solve it with the smaller jig for the first bow frames. Check it out and from your experience give me your opinion on my solution toughts given the defect area of the jig. Do you think its doable with the smaller jig and will not disturb the final position of the frames?
On the pictures you can notice the cutting error i refer too. Mainly on "S12" they don't even get close together and there are other defects that will affect the frames positioning..
Thank you for your opinion and help.

Hi Brito,
Your framing jig looks the same as mine and was wrought with difficulties trying to make it all fit together. I ended up cutting into it and made adjustments as I went along fitting the frames.
As soon as I was able, I discarded the framing jig and now have the hull on my own basic jig, held straight by the keel with small 90 degree aluminium angle lengths.

Thought I would have a small diversion and work on the brass castings.
The cannon barrels and various other castings are not finished. The model builder needs to clean them up before blackening.
Pictures below are the rough castings as supplied, then the second photo is the tumbling medium inside my gemstone tumbler.

I added the castings into the barrel with the tumbling medium which is some sort of abrasive stone, then topped up the barrel with water.
I will let it tumble away for a few days and see what happens.
Here's a photo of my gemstone tumbler. I bought it especially for work like this.

Hi Brito,

Where can we find your build log? It is lots of fun to do it.

Thank you for your reply brian ThumbsupThumbsupThumbsup, then maybe its a production error.
Hallo @Brito_686 , I agree here with the idea of Maarten - would be great to see your built - highly interested Popcorn

I will surely start a building a log when i get back from sea next week, i was beeing really bugged by this jig cut error and Brian cleared it for me.

Once again, thank you Brian and keep up the good work!

Hi guys,
thought I would cut some planking material and make a start on planking the hull. Although the kit supplied planking timber looks good, I decided to use Turkish boxwood which I had my timber cabinet.
Photo below is the first batch of planking that I cut with my Byrnes table saw. I need to now run it though my Byrnes thickneser to smooth out the imperfections

Absolutely incredible and beautiful work. I went back to the beginning again and I must have overlooked where you were talking about using brown paper bag for the caulking. I also picked up that you said they are not going to produce this kit anymore. Sad.
First of all do not buy black paper. The commercial black paper is too refined and not suitable, as it does not allow the glue to penetrate through the pours of the paper properly..
You need brown paper similar to what you get from a grocery shop for your fruit in a brown paper bag if you follow what I mean, then cut it into slivers and soak in diluted black acrylic paint and then hang out to dry.
heres a link I did on this technique-

very nice !!!

Great result Brian. Do you also have some Ebony for the whales? This would create the most elegant contrast with your yellowish box wood. Guess you are not using any paint on tjis beautiful piece of wood.
