Very neat planking Mustafa. The planks look quite thick, what wood are they?

Cheers Andy

Thank you for visiting my log Andy. The wood is magohany and thickness of the planks is 2 mm.

Planking goes on. The planking takes time because i am using only white glue and i have to taper both tips of each plank and have to soak them to bend. The magohany is a brittle wood and we need to be carefuly while benging it.

You must be having no end of problems with 2mm thick Mahogany. I found 0.5mm thick Mahogany bad enough. I soaked it in Sanding Sealer and found it made the planks a lot less brittle.
Cheers Andy

Hi Mustrafa,

yep, I've got 4 times a much Mahogany on the AL Santa Ana. Its slow going but it finishes up nicely with a scraper. I soak in hot water then use a hot old curling iron to shape it. Works great and take about 10 min to shape a plank.

Nice Job. Its worth the effort to do it right.

I got retired and returned back to my homecity. I am in my shipyard again. In the kit plan there is no second layer planking but I decided to make it because i didn't like first one. I am using 0,5 mm of mahogany strips.

Very Nice, I have this same kit and have been putting off building it. Eventually I'll get to it. but for Now I'll pull up a chair and watch your Build. She looks great. I love the Mahogany one of my Favorite Woods.
