La Belle 1/36 - Plan by Jean Boudriot / myself

Hello gents,

wow, a lot of discussion. First, Thanks to all for the kind words. I have as well the Proxxon 2000 Drillstand. I´m not very satisfied with it. Thats the reason why i did some upgrades in my milling park. But, Tony, if you has one, use it, test it. The results will show you your way for the future. Maybe you are supersatisfied with it. My tools are my tools. What i show is a mirror from my point of view and my experience. Maybe its not a good proposal for someone else.
@Uwek
the lightningsystem is worth every cent. It was a good upgrade and not expansive for what it is. Unfortunatly i cant not more hide the messy-lifestyle from my shipyard or any errors from my models.

@PT-2

Here are my tools. The big calmp has a engeneering error. f you turn the screw, the nut will pressed out of the wood. Put the nut on the other side. But this tool works very good and was a big help. Important is to use a hard wood.

Thank you for the look-see of the parts involved. I didn't know about the larger piece able to perform an opposite function from the smaller clamp. New ideas keep rising which I appreciate. PT-2

Yes, control is necessary and advice too, but it was a very paternal advice they gave.
I took the foto of the three giants at the CHEFS-D'OEVRE 1987 exhibition in the Musée de la Marine Paris,
just before the dinner started.

A small update for my workshop. The Unimat shows me her limit and the logical step was to buy a bigger lathe. Bigger, but not a monster.
My choise was the Paulimot C2 for various reasons. The workingarea is 400mm, the valuations in the net are excellent. I have the luck that the
Paulimot headquater is 100km far from my home what gives me the possibility to test the machine. There is a bigger machine with similar datas.
Only with more power and digital scales. But i didn´t like the feeling with the digital scales. It was a strange feeling with the backslash an the scales.
Finaly the desicion was clear. I will now test the C2, if she works well i will sell my Unimat.

Looks like you bought accessories for more money than the lathe itself :)
It looks like a lot of items to become familiar with applying to the lathe for tasks at hand. I am a total loss for metal lathe work but wood turning is more familiar. Looks like you will have a broad scope of work in the future. PT-2

Yes Poul, thats the point on milling machines or lathes. The accessories are like the universe. Infinite. Unfortunaty my bankcard is not.
@PT-2
I have made a mechanical formation 30 years ago. Never used a lathe again. Except my Unimat, which i bought last year. But now it helps.
The items i need for the masts and other little parts. All this tools will be in use !

Sounds like a full working shipyard! Now to create a filing/storage system for all of those parts. Hopefully it will be as rewarding as this starting point. PT-2

That knife adaptation takes some skill and other tools/stones to shape and have a sharp cutting edge. I am not sure where that is behind the point a half round cutout. Cause for thinking though which is good for my brain. Separately in a recent reading about Nelson's Med. fleet in 1805 off of Cadiz, his preference to vary the yellow band along the gun port doors was to have them painted in black creating checkerboard pattern. From what I read, his captains not wanting to make any separation from him all complied. If you find a confirmation or differing reference in paint finish along the band I would like to know. PT=2

But how do you use it ? By hand ? The sheave has 0,9mm and a furrow. Difficult to get a parallelism in this way, i think.
I use it by hand, as I don't have a metal lathe. because it is just a knife blade, I put it into the knife's handle and use it as a cutting tool on my Proxxon wood lathe. You can tight it in the tool rest on your metal lathe. :)
