I know in the hobby of astro photogrphy..good images stacking programs and photoshops is a necessity. I didn't know such was needed for photographing your ship model?

So, Rob, you say that you do AP (astro photography) too?

Yes Donnie...I build my own refractor telescopes....and also take pics through them. I'm not so proficient in much of the high quality astro imaging tools but I do enjoy the hobby at my level.

Arriving late to the party here...But, better late than never :D

I myself am a Mac user since 1988 or so and am also a Mac consultant, so it's easy for me to choose to use a Mac.

In terms of software, Apple's are really not expensive unless you need high end stuff. I mostly use the built-in application called "Preview". It opens just about any kind of document for viewing whether MS Word, pdf, tiff, jpeg, illustrator, photoshop, whatever. For actual editing, it's much more limited, but does allow me to crop, rescale, simple rotation, and color adjust jpegs and others. Also allows me to convert the more basic formats. Pretty much, this is all I need.

Beyond that, there is iPhoto for managing images. It also allows cropping, but also provides finer straightening tool (in addition to 90˚ rotations), and more sophisticate color adjustments. It's included on the Mac too. I mostly use it for managing photos and since I have to load the photos into for that, while I'm at it I do my color adjustments too.

Neither application has paint or draw capabilities, just image editing, but for the most part, that's all I need.

One things that's neat is the ability to use a visual oriented script builder that's also a regular tool on the Mac. I use that to automatically resize my images for blogging to 800 x 600. Saves me a lot of effort with these build logs!

I use a MAC too, along with my PC.
