Sovereign of The Seas - 1:68 scale

Postby Bulldog » Mon Apr 25, 2016 5:58 am

New to this forum, so this will be my first posting, just to put my foot in the door and say Ahoy.

Having logged over a dozen builds over the last several years, I am currently about 18 months into the most challenging build ever undertaken (by me).
Starting with a very old set of Italian plans found at a garage sale by a friend....no telling where the kit, or model is today. Turns out, the accuracy and detail of the plans were absolutely horrible.... full of technical errors and lack of critical dimensions needed by a scratch builder.
My most reliable source of information has been the build logs of a couple of excellent builders who have been kind enough share their photo's with me.

For now, I must play around with learning how to add images to this posting. :D
Note: All of the hull timbers are ripped from a bamboo tray purchased from Walmart.

Rather than attempt to post the hundreds of pics for a dozen different scratch builds, I think makes more sense to simply direct all interested members to visit my personal blog site which has start-to-finish build logs for each project.

Don't miss going through the 180th scale HMS Victory build log. To my knowledge, this is the worlds smallest fully rigged Vic (still waiting for a challenge).

The link to that site is below my signature.

Once visited, I welcome any and all comments and/or questions here within this posting.

Thanks all
Cheers

Hi Dave,
I actually came across your build via Google whilst looking for for models of the Sovereign.

I am curious about the angle you have given the side galleries, I notice that the photo on your blog shows siad galleries inline with the strakes, what was your reason for angling the galleries.
Bamboo ages nicely over the years.

Look forward to more builds.

Regards
Eric

Apologize for the "long time no see" folks..... my old laptop crashed and I completely lost everything, including links back to this forum.
Much has transpired since my last posting for the Sovereign build.
Without going into a complete gallery of pics, I will just post this shot of where we are now.....
All masts installed - standing rigging completed - spars hung - just now beginning her running rigging....
