SS Savannah 1818

Postby Tadeusz » Fri Jan 24, 2014 5:12 am

Hi All,
The beginning of the new year and the beginning of a new project.
My new project is a SS Savannah 1818.
Plans was found in the net http://www.gutenberg.org/files/25544/25 ... g6_big.png.
The model will be built at a scale of 1:100 with solid hull “bread and butter”
from MDF board 7mm thick.
The plans have been computer rescaled
was necessary to draw a new waterlines because in the project are spaced 5mm.
Then I made templates of waterlines for transfer shapes to MDF board.
After cutting and drilling the holes for the centering pins all been glued.
So obtained a preliminary shape of the hull was sanded with use templates of frames up to final hull shape. Finally, the hull was painted with primer and smoothed using putty, sanded with use of fine sandpaper then painted.
Underwater part of hull was coppered with use self-adhesive copper tape.

Looks pretty good. This must have been a small paddle wheeler since it looks small as a model.
Happy modeling,
Gary Maple

Masting and standing rigging works.
Crosstrees for topmasts were cut from the brass plates by photoetching.
Film for photoetching was printed on paper and then sprayed with Transparent 21 prior of UV exposition.
