Here are some closer views...plus, I've placed the forward deck supports for the forecastle decking.......this decking extends out and on top(forming the roof of the forward deck house).

Worked on the Clipper McKay and finished the main cabin and painted it and the bulwarks..along with the finished forecastle decking and cabin roof decking. I added the main rail and monkey rail as well.

Hi Rob,

I love the bulwarks detail and the deck house detail and the foc'sle and the foc'sle deck extension. I love the stormy seas too. I'm hoping to make something later on this year with a sea display. I've had Justin Camarata's book on Waterline Dioramas and find it a fascinating study. I have an 1/8" scale Baltimore Clipper hull that I've now set aside for the project. I hope I can get the water to look as nice as yours.

With this model I decided to build the lower masts like the originals had been built. Meaning..they were built with 5 milled, mortised beams..then iron strapped for security.
I first had to built a table saw to cut the round masts. I used the left drive on my dental bench lathe as the foundation for the table saw. I then built a gate and cut the 4 angled notches to represent the 4 recessed portions of built up masts.

Here is the first image of the cut mizzen mast.

I then added the 36 angled wedges that the bands are supported by, then the copper bands.

I then finished the tops and then weathered the mast. I also added the chain lift.

interesting build your doing here........seems there is no shortage of Cutty hulls ;-) I have a friend that has three of them........trying to buy one from him, but he's a hard sell   this just reinforces the theory I have, that with a bit of modification, any particular type of hull construction, can be made into many different ships.

wonderful work you are doing ;) look forward in seeing more.

Thanks Popeye.....I'v built the CS about 4 times and with each time I added greater detail......My latest version depicting the Cutty in for Jury rudder repairs, won me best in show in the Ship Modeling Forum's latest model contest. I then decided to use the Revell Cs hull to build my Ferriera Bark(aka CS), my Glory of the Seas and currently my Donald McKay. The Glory required ample below waterline corrections..where the McKay only needed deck and above water line corrections.....not to mention all the mast and rigging corrections for each ship. It is far easier to modify an already engineered hull to your specs then always begin a new. I always say.

Thanks for noticing.
