Anastasia is now complete. Here are a few pictures of the finished model. In due course I'm going to make a glass (er, plexiglass) case for her, but my proper workshop is a bit chilly at this time of year!
I do my model-making indoors, but the Acting Admiral would have me keel-hauled if I brought my full-size woodworking equipment into the living room! Give me about three months ...

This canoe is a PBK11, designed by Percy W Blandford. Mr Blandford died less than two months ago (10th January 2014), aged 101. This PBK11 was the first of a huge range of single-seat and two-seat kayaks that he designed and built. He also designed numerous small craft for amateurs to build, craft suitable for estuary sailing as well as rivers and lakes. There must be thousands of sailors in the UK and around the world who would never have discovered the pleasure of boating but for him.
Rest in peace, Mr Blandford. This is for you.

In case anyone's interested, here's a link to Facebook's "Percy W Blandford Appreciation Society". Loads of boats that he designed are to be seen there.

Nothing nicer than completing a model that you fell good about. Nicely done and unique build.
Happy modeling,

Well done, Brian - congratulations on her completion! A very nicely done model and, as has been said already, it must really bring back great memories whenever you look at her. Lovely job – you must be very proud and happy!

Popeye, GaryM, jct, Clare, Kent, thank you all for the kind words.
Yes, this build has been such a trip down memory lane for me, right from the day when I first started trying to rediscover the original plans, through to the final tightening of the rigging.
The completed model is resting on a shelf in the back room now, waiting for me to make the plexiglass case. I've got all the materials for it - I just need warmer weather for a few sessions in the workshop. But every now and then I go into that back room and I smile. It's very satisfying to look on a model you're proud to have built, isn't it?

you'll definitely have to post pictures of the case and how she looks in it. to answer your question....yes it does! I've celebrated many times already, in the short time I've been building wood kits. there's no bigger thrill, than completing the first one though, so it seems that every one there after, is aimed at peaking the interest even more. congrats!
