Polacca XII century

Post by Tadeusz » Sun Apr 14, 2013 1:24 pm

Hello,
My new project is model of sail ship polacca ( or polacra) in scale 1:100.
Plans from polish monthly Modelarstwo Okrętowe (ships modelling)
A polacca is a type of seventeenth-century sailing vessel used mainly on Mediterranean.
It is three mast ship with square sails on main and mizzen ( sometimes on mizzen was gaff or also lateen sails ) but lateen sail on foremast.
For this size of hull the best way is solid hull made as “bread and butter”.
It is staple wood boards with thickness equal to distance of waterlines shaped as waterlines to be glued together and finally shaped according frames stencils.
On beginning after scanning halves of waterlines and frames to be converted to full waterlines and frames. Waterlines glued on cardboard to be used for transfer to hull material i.e. MDF board.

I am sorry for mistake - polacca was used in XVII century. :text-imsorry:
This was due to celebrate the end of the previous project. :auto-ambulance:

Tadeusz, I think I understand when you say solid hull, but Bread & Butter is beyound me, so I'm looking forward to this build because I'm sure to learn something here. I like the look of the plans.

Nice job on the rail Tadeusz, I tried it on the Dolphyn, but I couldn't get it to bend. It cracked, splintered and broke. Finally, from sheer frustration, I cut it out ...

She is looking better, and better!
Cheers,
Carl
