Sea Witch sail boat 1957

Postby cog » Sun Mar 24, 2013 10:09 am

In response to shipbuilders' statement: It is easier to build a small model. I have started a - for me - tiny scale model.

The real thing is 30', mine is 3.3" (or 8.4 mm)

These are the plans:

First I cut a piece of Pear wood, glued the paper on it and cut that out with my band saw

After that, I shaped the rough form with a drum sander, and went from there on with some small files to get the shape proper and smooth

That didn't take long and it looks real good! :D
The hardest part is always the hull. If you use the wire rigging method, you should soon complete it.

Thanks Bob,
It took me about a week to get this far, which is actually further than with my Dolphyn in the same time span ...

Have to look that method up ...

Carl

Tadeusz, Popeye, thanks for the feather

I booked some more progress. Made some portholes, fabricated the skylight which goes on the cabin, as well as the two rails. Oh my - old age ... - carved the cockpit too. Glad it's not such a hughe boat, carving would have been endless ;-)

Need to get me some 600 grid sandpaper. The pictures I took with my mobile, since I do not have a macro lens (jet) for my Canon, and they are rather to sharp ... ;-)

Small update:

I made the sliding hatch for the companion way. Just need to find something to use as rails ... thought about brass, but maybe better to stick to wood

Filed a groove for the bulwarks, and glued the keel. So far yesterday eve's work. Don't know why the pictures have that blueish sheen suddenly.

heavy work done. made the masts, and erected them to see how the look. It's becoming more or less (definitely less) of a boat ...
