US Coast Guard Light Ship

Post by JosephH » Thu Jun 22, 2017 7:14 pm

I been looking around the last ferw weeks to decide on my first build. I am one who like to do the unusual not done before or not done very often. I finally come across the perfect ship. because of its size and the masting I can build it at a decent scale and also use it for radio control plans too.

This coast guard light ship has everything I want in a build, lots of character, its ugly, and lots of fiddly parts to play with. The hard part is there is almost no info on them. I was fortunate enough to find awesome line drawings at ultra high res, and someone on the other forum shot me a link to a pdf with the history of them with several images in it to work from.

I Finished all the tracings at full scale tonight, and got some stuff consistant and spaced properly as I drew Now tonight going to work on figuring how to fare the hull, waterlines and stations properly so I can start building this critter.

in case anyone wants here is my dxf file of the light vessel traced at full scale. this is not fared but I am working on trying to fare one up.

Today I got the masting and sails roughed in but they need refined to proper wood thicknesses etc

Just figured would share in case anyone wanted to fiddle with faring them in for practice or that might be better than me at it
