Golden Hinde

Postby eric61 » Wed Aug 03, 2016 2:02 am

Golden Hind was an English galleon best known for her circumnavigation of the globe between 1577 and 1580, captained by Sir Francis Drake. She was originally known as Pelican, but was renamed by Drake mid-voyage in 1578, in honour of his patron, Sir Christopher Hatton, whose crest was a golden 'hind' (a female deer). Hatton was one of the principal sponsors of Drake's world voyage.

On 1 March 1579, in the Pacific Ocean, off the coast of Ecuador, Golden Hind challenged and captured the Spanish galleon Nuestra Señora de la Concepción (model, from Dusek, being built by NMBROOK). This galleon had the largest treasure captured to that date: over 360,000 pesos. The six tons of treasure took six days to transship. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_Hind

As is the tradition on this site people like to see the packaging, plans and contents. Feast your eyes!

Fairly comprehensive plans, pity they are in Chinese. I had a job translating the pictures.
Now for the parts.......

The pictures will now speak for themselves and I will comment near the end.
BTW, the metal is stainless steel and laser cut, people with no patience, arthritic fingers and minimal dexterity shouldn't try building these kits.
The ship is 100mm long by 85mm high (plus stand) The metal is 0.19mm or 0.0075/inch thick

Finally finished!!

To take a page out of Gary's post where he tallies the parts and time, there were 27 parts and it took me all of 2 hours to build. Neat huh?

And so Sir Francis Duck, sorry, Drake, sails off into the blue yonder.

I downloaded the background image and set it as a wallpaper and posed the ship in front.

These are all the tools that are needed to build a model like this, I also have a Steam train and a Japanese Zero. I will do a post later in another area when everyone has stopped laughing.
Regards
Eric

If a person gets frustrated with building one of these there is a special tool which is only available from the Insanity section of any hardware store............. USE THE BIG ONE!!

Hi Geoff, creating the post took longer than the build! two cups of tea, a coffee and hot chocolate drink (for three people)
Now I'll go and do dinner!
