Hi Popeye sorry for the delay in replying iv'e been away from modelling for a while as not had the time what with work and home but hopefully will be getting back into the swing of things soon,Yes they are great kits and with this model being my first ever attempt i wanted to do something i was familiar with and having worked on these ships for over 20 yrs i know my way around them including the one in the photo's which i sailed on for a year or so but she looked different then as those are earlier pics of her and all that style of vessel who fished the same way had identical winches which were operated by a belt drive system.
There was a drive shaft that went from the bottom of the winch through the lower casing and into the engine room a long handle was fixed to the casing next to the winch which had an arm on the inside and wheel on the end of it, the engine had a large fly wheel on the front and when you pushed on the handle the arm and wheel would be pushed onto a large belt that would be tightened up and make contact with the fly wheel as so operating the winch.

Looks like a fun build. And, you have put some extra originality into it. Nice work.

Bill

Very nice clean planking of the hull. I always applaud folks that can handle this part well.

Hi all
My Apologies for not updating this log before but things have just taken over my life and been to busy but things are slowly getting back to normal.
Here are some more pics of this build, after i had sanded and painted the hull i cut up some small pieces of wood and painted them silver to show the zinc anodes that are fixed to the hull.

I continued with the construction of the engine room skylight, in the kit there are 2 solid wooden blocks are used for the skylights but i decided to have a go and make my own using some scrap wood and copper wire and then assembled the wheelhouse.

Thank you
This was my very first build and learnt quite a lot from it, here are some more pics and my first attempts at weathering as a lot of these ships would only be painted once every few years keeping these ships looking nice was not easy also added some decals, the only mistake i made here was i had forgotten to paint a black background first which was the norm for these ships and then the fishing reg numbers were later painted on in white.
