SOS build log Baltimore Clipper Constructo Junior

Postby Merchant65 » Fri May 23, 2014 8:27 pm

My sons Baltimore clipper finally came. It says for ages 6 and up. He's 6 so I told him I'll explain it and cut out anything that needs an exacto but everything else is all on him. He's pretty excited so far. We'll see how it goes. As you can see there are 4 pages of illustrations. I'm having trouble decifering them

If you are having trouble, then a 6 year old has to be able to assembly it by pictures.
Happy modeling,
Gary Maple

I would look up other companies that make a model of this ship.....some of them have their instructions on there in PDF form. they are down loadable and they would give you another 'constructive' view on how the model might be built.

take it slow and work on one step at a time......it's a start :) personally, even if it comes out a bit funny........you'll still have a lot of fun :)

We got the deck on the hull. I'm going over each piece individually. With a little help from model shipbuilding simplified. I believe I'll be able to figure it out.

Well I've had a bit of a hiatus, (I think that's how it's spelled) but we're back at it. We had to remove the sub deck and make some adjustments. It's back on and he started putting on the top planking on. 6 year olds don't glue very well but he did pretty good at cleaning up the excess.

We had a little trouble when it came to bending and glueing. He tried to glue it all at once. "Let's get this on and see what's next." I had to strategize for a few minutes to figure out how to explain to him it is a slow process in a way that he won't give up on it. I told him to glue one part then go play while that sets then come back and glue another part later. Once he got that first rail bent and all glued on, he was so proud of himself. I think he's hooked now
