Been a couple of months since I updated my build, so I thought it was about time.
Work has slowed down a lot now that Summer has arrived, other chores around the home need my attention, also ran out of thread and some of the deadeyes, so had to locate and purchase those.
However I have made some progress as you will see from my latest pictures, and am currently working on the ratlines to the shrouds, finding it a bit tricky to get the right amount of slack for each one (waxed thread does not seem to slip to where you want it to)
Once the shrouds are complete my next job is the sails, this is going to be fun, all I have is big sheet of cotton and some templates to work to, instructions say to age the material by immersing in a weak tea solution and not ironing them, is this really the best way, I am sure many of you out there have other ideas on this subject and any help will be gratefully received.

Some nice progress. I heard a lot about tea or week coffee being used like you said. I would get some spare material like what you have and experiment with this before committing to the real thing.
Happy modeling,
Gary Maple

Been 3 months already since I was last on here, Summer time for me is a very busy time so progress on my build was slow, but did get there in the end.
I had took some photo's of the work on the sails but they somehow got lost, so will have to make do with the finished product.
Didn't go with the tea stained look for the sails, sample I tried didn't look very good at all, if you can see in the photo's I did sew lines down the sails which gave them a sort of crinkly old look, and I finally found out what the thin stainless steel wire was for, it is sewn into the hem of the sails to stiffen the bottom & sides (most of you seasoned builders are going to say now, I could of told you that)
I have to admit here that I did not enjoy fitting out the sails & rigging as much as the wood work side of the build, so for my next build I am looking to do a Mississippi paddle boat (see if I can get my other half to buy me one for Xmas)

Looks like a ship you can be proud of. Although the rigging is tedious, it really brings the ship to life. The sails look realist and add to the character.

Looks very good Brian, I agree with Gary the rigging can be a challenge but worth it in the end...allows one to develop a different set of skills, as well. Your gallon turned out super.
