Build log: dinghy 1/12 scale

Postby Merchant65 » Wed Apr 23, 2014 4:02 am

Well here we go. My first build and my first build log. I just started it and I'm already very excited about it. My six year old son is helping me with it so it's pretty slow going, but he's a big help. He's already asking when he can have his own model to build.
I will be posting several pictures as I go. If anyone has any ideas or anything I'm open to any suggestions.

As this is your first build it may be an idea to display a photo of the box and its contents and something to use as a size scale ie. a coin!
No doubt plenty of advice on how to proceed will be forthcoming and don't forget to ask!! if you don't want to ask openly then PM someone!
But firstly enjoy yourself this isn't a difficult hobby just a slow one!!
Cheers, Steve..

This is a hobby that you never stop learning once you start. It is a fascinating and very rewarding hobby. You have done the right thing by buying a simple model and starting on that. You gradually build your skills and learn the tasks that make it easier to do more advanced models. A lot want to start on a beautiful full rigged ship and buy an advanced model. They find it is to hard to build because they have not learned the skills required to take on the task. Like a person said, this is not a hard hobby but one that you learn as you go. Once you complete a project you will be hooked. With each completed model your skill will increase and you will be ready for more advanced projects.
There are a lot of friendly and supportive modelers here, so feel free to ask for help and enjoy.
Happy modeling,
Gary Maple

That's really good advise. I know how I am. Once I get overwhelmed, I usually end up giving up. I really think I'm going to enjoy this hobby. I know so far I love it.
