that looks very nice.....it would be hard to run lighting in there.....would have been a sweet extra ;-) I would imagine that your going to use clear cello for the windows? I had to make modifications to the Gothenborg to do that....I didn't do anything fancy.....no furniture or anything. just to get the effect of light passing through the stern is a plus. I like seeing the posts that support the decks.......looks cool!

Yes, I will use celluloid but have to also do the wood dividers since all the back windows have 4 panes like on the card above. This will be the tricky part.

Hi Gary,

I'm not sure if you mentioned this information source before, but were you aware that there are some nice plan drawings of the Royal Louis in the 3-volume set of books Souvenirs de Marine? The books are in French, originally published in 1882.

I was over at the Maritime Library in SF today and they have several editions and I was awestruck by the number of subjects in the books and details. Not just French ships, but all ships from around the world. I ran across two different plans, one for the Royal Louis of the late 1600s and one of the 1780. Of course, I immediately thought of you.

There are a couple of pages on the 1780 Royal Louis in a condensed paperback version that you can buy on Amazon for less than $10. If you contact the SF Maritime Library, they should be also able to scan the pages and email them to you (it's free). I can provide an email contact if you need it.

Again, nice work on your model! I'm looking forward to seeing it maybe at our next get together if you bring it.

I have too many ships in my closet and could not get interested in this one enough. I had 155 hours into her and decided to put it away.

I'll look for your log on her. I'd love to get a kit of the Cutty....one of these days.

what I would really like is to get my hands on the Billing's Warrior. enjoy the build, I'll see you there :)

Really sad toy ear that you are no longer working on the Royal Luis, your logs are always so informative. Was there something in particular that through you off?

I just could not get into building this and have 5 other kits waiting that I want to build so I have started the Cutty Sark. I had 155 hours into it. They had several nice ideas but just did not like all the pot metal and scale. Guess I am spoiled and want to work at a larger scale where you can make the items and not have to cast them.
