Bounty by Amati

Postby SgtGlick » Wed Feb 27, 2013 2:44 pm

Ahoy fellow shipmodelers;
I am about to start a build of the Bounty by Amati.
I have a building board.
Two adjustable guide rails to fit any center keels.
An adjustable clamp to hold any center keel vertical to the
building board base.
Clamp also has provision to hold the bulkheads vertical to the
base.
I will be posting photos later.
I will also be posing a question or two re; procedure.

Going to upload a few photos.
Sgt Glick.
P.S.
Should I install the first ( bow end) bulkhead first?
or the last (stern end) first?

I love Amati fittings. They do great detail casting. Will love watching this one. Good luck.
Happy modeling,
Gary Maple

I don't think it really matters and I was thinking about my own project back then. It seems to me that I started in the middle with one and made sure it was aligned as good as I could. Then it seems that I put some at random going fore and aft, until I felt things were tightening up, then I just filled in the rest. I guess there is no pattern - but you gotta be square in several dimensions.

i.e. measure from the base of your table up to the top of the Bulkhead on each side - clamp things down and put a good coat of slow drying WOOD glue. Do not use and I might want to be as bold as to say never use CA on this part. You have to be able to position things around as the glue cures. That frame is the most important part of making a good true hull that can be "faired" easily.

BTW - good to see you working on a project.

Donnie

ps. I always tell people to turn their frame upside down on a flat table when you finished installing the Bulkheads - then observe the corners of the frame to make sure the upper tips of the frame are all touching - the point is that you don't want your frame to rock back and forth on the table. I thought I had a square frame until I flipped mine over to start my hull planking only to find out I was like 1/8" off - the frame rocked.
