I know it has been a while.......I have gone on a walkabout.....I have done many things. of course......winter has not been kind to me......the snow is a pain in the....well, you know where :D I left this build off with the Phylly C still needing to be finished....the skis. I tried a few ideas, but could not come up with a convincing set of bindings. not only that, I've called Barbie numerous times.....she won't call me back! so I've had to rely on my chief Wharfsman, Chester. tried to get him to model the skis, but, with his club feet {way too much time on deck}, it was impossible to get a good fit. so I thought up another way to add them to the build, and finish it off.

So......to start this off, I guess I should spill the beans. I figure that if I can't portray them openly on deck, I might as well portray them stored in their ski rack. I had to make it so that the other side of the skis couldn't be seen, so the rack was built deep, and as close a tolerance as possible.

the rack was shaped and sanded.......the bottom of the rack was closed in. I knew I still had some of the wainscoting around that I used inside the helm, but I couldn't find it......so I just laid some planking I had lying around. after the dry fit.......I added some molding to mimic the interior. later, it was given a couple of coats of semi gloss lacquer.

time to add the hardware.......not too much really. took some antiqued chain that I had and set it into the existing eye bolts......equally, with a little hang to them. with another couple of eye bolts, I made up some hooks and set them onto the other end of the chain. all of the eye bolts were then cemented in place {except for the hooks, of course}, and then cemented the assembly in place on deck.

That makes a nice addition. Looks like it belonged there all the time.
Happy modeling,

thanks Gary.....good to have finally found a home for them. I got tired of them being on the table.....that 'I'll do it tomorrow' thing really worked well.....I put them away. when I went to actually get down to doing it, I couldn't remember where I had put them. just nice to know the boat is complete now.

do you have a build going on at the moment? I looked for one and didn't see.

Clever way to get around the problem, but I say they look great either way. Nice job on the build.
