"Steves" Sovereign build partwork.

Postby StevieF » Mon Nov 19, 2012 8:03 am

This is the first update of my latest build! I have subscribed to the Deagostini HMS Sovereign of the seas partwork, this series is provided as a 132 part series. Quite expensive!! but easier to manage than splashing out for a complete kit?
I start here with the forward frame and bow shapers, these have been glued together with the help of a well used 4mm x 8mm wooden strip. The strip keeps the central gap at a uniform 4mm. The lego bricks come in useful for maitaining accurate angles! you will find that I utilise these blocks quite a lot.

The following photos show the construction of the three part ribs, all of the ribs will be assembled in the same manner.

In the pictures below, the bow and its formers have been glued together, the bow has then been filled with balsa to aid with the planking later in the build!

I finish this update with this last photo showing all the completed ribs clamped together to keep them flat until required, the last rib will be assembled when needed due to the various other parts that need to be attached to it.

Thank you to all for the welcome and I appreciate all and any comments good or bad to help me along with this build.

Hello Stevie,

You are of to a good start. I've never seen a build from D'Agostini.
I'm really looking forward to this build.

And yes, Lego blocks are good tools :D

Good luck with it and take care.

I have never heard of Deagostini. Is this a strictly England manufacturer?
The materials look great and the build looks very interesting. Nice work so far.
I have Mantua's Sovereign of the Sea as my next project after completing Le Soleil Royal. I have already replaced some of the incorrect items in the SOS kit.
Thus, I will be following your buid with great interest.
Happy modeling,
Gary Maple

Problems are just challenges waiting for your solution.

Stevie - I would like to know more about this particular series of components that you are gathering from this publisher/kit maker. Where can others find this available?

Of what I can see, it seems that this build will be very sturdy and well designed and built.

Here in the Netherlands you can buy this issues in almost any shop selling magazines.
You don't have to subscribe, you can just buy the issues when they come out.

Take care,

Great to see you started Stevie,

I think it's European to do it this way.
We have also the Victory from Deagostini that you can collect at the same way.
Enjoy your build!
