Build Log: US Niagara

Postby bbrockel » Wed May 09, 2012 8:09 pm

Started this build a little over a year ago. To date the hull has been planked, filled, sanded and primed. The upper bulwarks have been planked and gun ports shaped and painted. Ready to mark the waterline and paint the hull.

I was going to ask this earlier.....but due to the circumstances, I hesitated. are you going to bring your other ship {I forgot which one} to your home and finish it there?

Gary, Thank you.

Popeye, you are correct. I'm in the process of moving into my new location, my Dad's house. I will finally have both builds under one roof. Just getting the house and shop set up is going to take a while. Hae reserved a U-Haul truck for the weekend of May 19th and I have take the following week off at work. Should be pretty well settled in by the end of May. At least that's my plan. We will see. "The best laid plans of mice and men....."

Hi Bob,

I found out that you have an other build.....
It looks great and clean planking.
I just told Anja that I do the same as you.
First planking from the top to the middle and then from the keel to the middle :D
I know that some are only goes from the top to the bottom.
Do you know if that has a reason?
Or is it just the way that you like.

believe it or not....planking from the keel is the preferred method. I have never known the origin of planking from the bulwarks down......that's the way I learned to do it. when I planked the Gothenborg....I planked to the whales, and then up from the keel......seems to be the preferred method for these period ships. in any case....it's best left to the modeler to see what suits them best,.
