I wonder if I could just paint the glazing red instead of using the red paper? I have been afraid to try it, since it seems so fragile and I can just imagine my sharp paint brush going right through the glazing.

I spent today finishing the starboard bow detail. Due to some misalignment problems, the parts shown are not quite as the instructions show. I had to make a little modification for the effect would be there and the two rigging holes and gammoning slot would still be usable when it is time to rig the model.

The mountain man figurehead is not cemented to the prow yet, I used it to position the lower brass wire decoration. The instructions stated to install the wood pieces than paint them, but I decided to paint them first and then cement them in place. The brass wire is 1.5 mm in diameter and I found that it isn't easy bending brass wire and then using CY glue to attach it to the wood. The wood supports are painted black and the decoration are painted gold.

I found that cementing one end first, very carefully using what clamps I could to hold the dry wire in place while the cemented wire sets helps with slight bending corrections of wire. Although the upper brass decoration set almost exactly in 15 to 30 seconds, the lower brass decoration did NOT want to set and it took a couple of hours to get that wire installed. Both are not perfect of coarse, but don't look too bad.

A good view of my work today. Notice the top decoration ends in a shepherds' hook shape while the bottom just ends at the figurehead's feet.

I use the Testor's window maker and cement. it's good for cementing clear parts on plastic models too. it can be painted....I've done it ;)

It has been awhile since I posted an update, but I have been working pretty steadily on the kit as you will see.

I installed the ships boat supports and affixed the main stern gallery to the stern supports. The port and starboard stern side gallery bases / supports have also been installed.

I noted that I had to sand / grind / remove a portion of the main wale directly under the side stern galleries in order to better fit the nicely molded metal piece that has to go under there. The series of photos show the dry fitted boat on its supports.

A short additional update on the finished quarterdeck stern lockers and chests. The photos show the dry fitted pieces not yet cemented.

Interesting kit. I have never seen chest and lockers used in this area before. Each country had its own unique little twists.
Happy modeling,
Gary Maple
