Hi Mustafa,

Can I ask how you held the plank while planing? I bought a cute plane too for this job, but ended up using a razor saw instead. I found it was fiddly to hold the plank and try to plane.

Hi Gemma, i have just bought this cute plane. I didn't use plane while i was planking Santa Maria. I only used sandpaper for tapering. If you ask about the single plank in the last picture i uploaded, i held it just by my fingers. It was a trial.

Thanks Mustafa, I was thinking of making a little clamp, like a small version of the clamps we use to hold the keel of the ship. I thought then I could clamp the plank and more easily plane. Holding in my fingers, I planed my thumb as well as the plank. Not pleasant. :crying-green:

Excellent progress! I can't get over how real your planking looks, I know it is a model, but without the background in the images to give scale, I would think I was looking at a real ship. :handgestures-thumbup:

Thank you Gemma. I think those 2x3 mm magohany strips give a more realistic look to the model. But i am not sure how it will look after sanding, i am a bit afraid of loosing this realistic look after sanding, i don't know.

I would be very tempted to leave them as they are because the slight imperfection makes the planking amazing!

I am not very traditional though, I like realistic, so do what you feel is best. Sanding will change how they look, but maybe you want her looking more like a new ship? Right now she looks like a real ship that has seen some life and I definitely would go for that. But your ship, do what you think is best for her. :handgestures-thumbup:
