Corel's Half Moon

Post by CharlesEdward » Sun Apr 29, 2012 5:31 pm

Henry Hudson sailed this vessal up the Hudson river as far as he could. The kit is a 1:50 scale which transalates roughly to 1" equal 4' 2". The crew complement of this ship was under 30 officers and crew.

The historical notes online say that about 28 to 32 men crewed the Half Moon. This was possible my fifth or sixth kit completed. I did this and the Golden Hind at the same time so not sure which one I finished first.

The blue colored planking strips and light blue, blue grey planks were silk-screened printed wood also included and were both .5 mm in width. This kit also included about half-dozen strips of flexible beech wood to frame and build the main deck guard rail.

I had some pictures of the deck details for this kit but my thumb drive got toasted so I will have to re-take those shots later to share. Here are a few more details of this kit including the decorative stern gallery.

I will try to get some pictures of the deck detail later this week for the weekend upload.

The view of the decorated stern gallery. All metal pieces were of a gilded brittania metal, but the gold coloring was not consistant. I used a bright brass spray paint to try to correct them.

Some rigging details of the shrouds and fore and main crows nest. I wanted to dye the supplied tan thread black or purchase some black thread for the stays, but just never did it

I have a few more pictures but when I reviewed them they were some very similar pictures to those already posted. So you all have a pretty thorough tour of this kit.
