Bomb Vessel Full Ship Design

This forum discusses Ships Plans, from how to read your plans, to where can I buy my own plans. We have all seen missing or incorrect info on plans and diagrams, got the right info?

well things slowed down on this but not much. there is a group of us working on several new designs over at MSB and thought would share where we are with the first project.

This is a light vessel from the early to mid 1800's. it has all kinds of cool detailing and some really cool stuff happening on deck to make it unique and not done before and can have a lot of LED to light it up like it is working vessel.

Light vessels were and are floating lighthouses. they are used where it is impractical and impossible to place a normal lighthouse.

I have 8 more frames which I will finish tonight then start fleshing the rest of the framing out. this is a group project one of several for new and unique plans we are working on as a group. Hope you guys interested in some new stuff cause we got it coming for you.

I will Geoff but I need to do the upper deck which working on today. (By the way been in google hanout sharing screen and teaching sgtmike solidworks) and fixing the errors in the plans. we will eventually be doing one of the other bomb vessels full ship like i think it called vesuviuos or something but first need to fix errors in this plan so we can use the mortar pit parts etc.

I am also framing up the Mortar and Cannon for having machined or 3D Printed

Ok spent most yesterday setting up the files and planes for the top deck. last night I got a good start on the deck it will prob take a couple days to finish the deck then start the final push with all the detail stuff and some partial planking

the problems with the top deck is the notches arent uniform nor do they line up really well so I got most of them fixed yesterday. just the setting up of the files and the planes took most of yesterday. thats the time consuming part as each section is its own assembly and every part has its own file so it makes things easier to edit later and set up for plan sheets

More of the top deck done it is going slow as the notches aren't proper and the deck isn't even symmetrical so needing to take lot of time fixing the errors but it is getting there. Dave said he had to redo all the parts also to get his cut files.

Hi, Joe!

Very nice job. I have plans for the Granado cross section drawn by Jeff Staudt. 1:24 scale! One day I'll get to it. I know nothing about CAD. Is it possible to convert your drawings into a Sketch Up format? Just curious.

I would hold off Doc We will be rereleasing them over at MSB the reason being they are so inaccurate and all parts dont fit properly ie notches not lined up etc. that is why we are redoing them and then will be doing a full ship at some point

so as soon as I finish these up and tidy up some frame errors I passed over at the start until the rest was fixed. then we should be ready and I will be building one

yes it is possible to convert cad files into Sketchup, do you use Sketchup?

Sketchup has a large number of plugins and importing DWG and DXF is one of those plugins

naw I dont use sketchup and dont think sketchup could handle the 3D file from what I understand but maybe it can I can do parasolid and iges if that helps. but I have to create drawing files when done of all parts etc and those will be in dxf and pdf and since doing pdf from cad the pdf will be able to be opened in most cad programs that can handle pdf files and when imported will be in cad format

system crashed trying to do full render but here is hatch and lifting rings rendered
